Day 3 - Not just a travel Day

Today was to be a travel day from Bath to Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch (Llanfair PG) but it became much more than that.

Debbie reading in our room and below the view from our window. There were actually 60 stairs up to our room.

We started off with a wonderful breakfast in the Brock's Guest House and headed for the station with a side trip to photograph the ceiling of Bath Abbey which I missed yesterday. The train trip was 4 hours with a transfer in Newport, South Wales, and other than the wonderful scenery it was quite uneventful.

We were greeted on the platform by Elaine and Paul Green. We hosted some Pathfinders from Wales a few years ago and Elaine was the leader who stayed with us. We have been looking forward to this reunion with great anticipation.

We sat and chatted for a bit but they were eager to show us a bit of Wales so we headed to Snowdonia National Park. The first stop was to view the historical Vivian slate quarries across Llyn Peris near Llanberis. It is hard to comprehend how harsh the life of a quarry miner must have been.

We stopped at a few pull-offs on our way up through the
Llanberis Pass.

We parked and started up one of the hiking trails to the summit of Mount Snowdon. It was dusk when we started so we didn't get very far up but it was more than enough to convince us that we were viewing some of the absolutely grandest scenery anywhere.

For me it evoked images of Celts and their Druid spiritual leaders with wood nymphs watching our every move. My bubble burst when Debbie said "Wow! look at all the sheep. "

There were sheep everywhere that there was something green to eat. There were sheep places that even Alex wouldn't dare to climb. Elaine informed us that there are more sheep than people in Wales and we now believe her.

Supper was a delicious meal of Welsh sausages, mashed potatoes with a small Swede ground in and onion gravey. We washed it down with a Welsh wine and a selection of local cheeses.

We are hooked on Wales. Yeh-chid dah.
