day 1 -Tiring but Awesome

Today was a very long day. We have been awake for 36 hours now.

When we got to the airport we discovered that our Option Plus plan not only allowed us to jump the queue but it got us into the first class loung for $25 each. The lounge had unlimited food and wine.

The seats on the plane were very small but the Option Plus got us priority boarding plus a bottle of champagne, a bottle of wine a Baileys and a cognac. It also got us priority baggage handling so we jumped ahead of everyone again.

It took two trains to get to Both (spelled Bath) The first we went standard class because we didn't know how to identify the first class cars. It took us to Redding (spelled Reading). From there we went first class to Bath Spa and what luxury that was. Huge leather seats and complimentary tea, coffee and Walker's shortbread.

Our first stop in Bath was an Apple store to get a sim card for my iPad. £5 gets 1gig so I am now connected. Our second stop was a shoe store because Debbie's shoes were hurting. A new pair of Birks seems to have solved that problem.

Next we checked into our B&B. It is a wonderful old house with a big room and no curtain in the bathroom. We are 4 floors up and can sit on the can and wave to the people across the street. Once we were settled in we went next door for an amazing cream tea. Better scones than The Prince of Wales Hotel in Niagara on the Lake and enough clotted cream to give a cow a heart attack.

From there we went walking. We went to Bath Abby which is the only standing medieval church in England. We took a tour which took us above the vaulted ceiling so we could see the stonework from above. It also took us up the bell tower to look at the bells and clock mechanism and then onto the tower roof.

Supper was fish and chips in a local pub. It was another fantastic English meal and then back to our room. It is 8:30 PM here. Debbie is snoring already and I am working on this blog. Tomorrow is an early start so I won't be far behind her.

This is my first blog from my IPad and I haven't found the format functions yet so you will have to bear with me.

Good night all.

John and Debbie.
